How a Year of Growth Led to the Possibility of Total Freedom

I love this time of year. The week between Christmas and New Years holds a special place in my heart. It is a time to relax, reflect and get clear on what I want to manifest in the year to come. I usually choose a single words to reflect on the year past, and plan for the year to come.

2016 was the year of “Growth”

At the start of 2016, I was midway through leading our first yoga teacher training program at the studio here in Indian Head. Teaching others how to share the yoga tradition was one of the single most rewarding experiences of my life, running a close second to raising a family. The program felt like a child. It required attention, presence, love, patience, firm boundaries, and in the end - letting go and trusting you’ve done your job well. I am continually filled with gratitude toward the 10 amazing souls who trusted me to guide them into a deeper understanding of yoga. It’s been really rewarding to see where their practices & teaching have taken them since graduating in July.

I learned a lot about yoga during the teacher training program. It really is true that learning is greatly enhanced when you teach what you are learning.

Yoga is a continual process of learning, exploring, recalibrating & growing for me.

Leading the teacher training allowed me to place a magnifying glass over my practice, I learned so much about myself in the process of understanding the yoga tradition more comprehensively,

As I head into 2017, I’m still rethinking how I practice yoga and I’m so excited to share these thoughts with you in workshops, one on one sessions, classes & supplemental teacher trainings.

During the teacher training, I found myself completely entranced with Tantra and it was around that same time that Layla Martin popped up on my Facebook newsfeed.

Who knew that initial click of curiosity would set such a dramatic change of course for my entire life?

Just one click.

Changed my life. Completely.

I signed up for Layla’s Jade Pleasure course. Then I signed up for Obliss. These courses were game changers for me. They opened me in ways I never thought possible.

I began to feel REALLY TURNED ON by LIFE!

In early summer, Layla announced her "Sex, Love and Relationship” 600 hour coaching program and there was no question that I would be in this program. When you want something badly enough, you MAKE it happen! This course was an opportunity for me to finally piece together everything I had done so far in my life to prepare for it.

I knew this was coming and I was ready!

I knew when my mom had groups of women over to our house to discuss the topic of “Feminism”, which seemed both strange and exotic to me.

I knew when I had my first sexual experience.

I knew when I read, “The Beauty Myth” by Naomi Wolf

I knew when I took my first Women’s Studies course in University. And went on to graduate with a degree in the same area of study.

I knew when I met my life partner, Steve.

I knew when I had my babies and created community around me to support, encourage and share in the common experiences of new motherhood.

I knew when I started my first online business.

I knew when I started practicing yoga, eventually taking a teacher training program.

I knew when my life fell to pieces around me....

I knew when I listened to David Deida teaching.

I knew on the mountain listening to the voice of Meghan Currie say, “Think about why you are here, the reason you know, but you don’t know... but you KNOW”

I knew when I read “A New Earth” by Eckhart Tolle

I knew when I opened my studio.

I knew when I married Steve, after 20 years of courtship and three babies.

I knew when I offered a teacher training.

I knew when I read Georg Feurestein’s Book “Tantra, The Path of Ecstasy"

I knew when I watched Erich Schiffman’s online Freedom Style Teacher Training.

I knew when I clicked that link.

I knew in the Shakti Prayer class with Brenda Feuerstein.

I knew when I felt pleasure deep inside my body.

I knew when I read “Come as You Are” by Emily Nagoski

I knew when I read “Vagina” by Naomi Wolf

I knew when I read, “Pussy” by Mama Gena

I knew.

And I still know.

The Goddess Within work is only just the beginning, and it’s ONE HELL OF A BEGINNING!!

This is my life’s work. This is my passion. This is my purpose.

Which brings me to 2017.

My word for 2017 is: FREEDOM.

2017 is going to be about learning, sharing, & experiencing. It will be about letting go of old habits, patterns and behaviours that hold me back from being exactly who I’ve always known I would be. I know this is going to be a stellar year. The groundwork has been put into place. The pieces are falling together in the most beautiful of ways. It feels like I’m finally going home.

What will 2017 be for you? Just one word (or 10)

Here are some ideas:

Pleasure, Celebration, Passion, Freedom, Joy, Sensuality, Presence, Desire, Excitement, Growth, Daring, Empowerment, Exuberance, Divine, Fullness, Purpose, Direction, Soulful, Meaningful, Energized, Meaningful, Adventurous, Alive, Healing, Healthy, Vitality, Dynamic, Harmony, Balance, Calm, Centered, Peace, Simplicity, Tranquil, Ease, Audacious, Brave, Confident, Daring, Strong, Blissful, Ecstatic, Euphoric, Goddess, Surrendered, Vibrant, Magical, Inspirational, Playful, Powerful, Trusting, Fluid, Embodied, Sexy, Turned on, Focused, Grounded, Abundant, Gratitude, Connection, Romantic, Authentic, Illuminated, Wondrous

Close your eyes, take a couple of deep, long, slow breaths and reflect on 2016. Then feel into 2017. Read through these words, maybe something in that word list sparks something in your soul. Maybe it jumps right out at you, or feels like a deeper resonance. It’s saying, "This is it, this is where I want to be at the end of 2017, this is what I want to feel, this is how I want to live, this is what I want to manifest”

Resolve. Intend. Plan your next year so that you can FEEL this way!

Danielle Laporte’s year end reflection is a really wonderful way to set free the previous year, and embrace the year to come. Give it a try, if this feels good for you!

What didn’t work?
What did work?
What were the highlights?

And then: What does the new year look like if it’s full of what works?
Bonus Q: What do your highlights say about you?

Is this the year you UNLEASH the real YOU?

The you that has always known what this whole thing called life is about. That authentic sense of self that you feel inside.  That glimmer in your eye is just the beginning!

Maybe the start of the path is just ONE click away for you too?

Just like it was for me.
